In Memory of Don Lindsey

The St. Theresa School community and parish is deeply saddened by the death of our much  loved teacher, Mr. Don Lindsey.  Don began his love for education by attending Indiana Central College where he received a BA in Biology/English.  Don attended graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley earning an MA in Microbiology, in addition to completed 48 hours of Post Graduate Independent Study. Educator extraordinaire!

Science, English grammar, and literature were Don’s passion.  His educational objective was to “become an elementary teacher where academic excellence is encouraged in an atmosphere of creative competition, and is founded on a thorough knowledge of the basics of education.”  Don began his St. Theresa School journey in September, 1983.  During Don’s 30 years at St. Theresa School, he touched and changed the lives of many students.

Students who have graduated from STS speak highly of Don’s influence. They recount how he impacted their lives in making decisions about college and life’s journey.  His name comes up at Sunday dinners, holiday gatherings, and even on social media - something Don did not embrace until he discovered YouTube. Oh, how he loved YouTube!

Don was selected in 1993 to receive the Xavier College Preparatory Golden Gator Award for Excellence in Teaching (Phoenix, AZ).  He was nominated for this award by a former student and was one of 120 teachers from 61 schools around the country to be recognized as an exemplary educator.

In the 2002-2003 school year, Don was nominated and selected to receive the Diocese of San Bernardino Teacher of the Year award.

In May 2005, Don was nominated to receive the 2005 Presidential Scholars Program Teacher Recognition Award. Presidential Scholars were asked to name the one teacher who most encouraged and challenged them throughout their school careers.  Former student, Blair Greenwald, selected Don as that teacher. This exemplifies a legacy of expertise and a true love of teaching.

Don will be greatly missed by the St. Theresa School community and parish.  We all have stories about Don, and by sharing those stories, he will remain alive in our hearts forever. We were all so blessed to have Don, a quintessential educator, who will never be forgotten.

On Tuesday, March 18, our students will hold a Celebration of Life service at 10:45 A.M. in the amphitheater for our school community.
On Saturday, April 5, the STS Alumni group is planning a larger scale Celebration of Life. Save the date. Information to follow as it becomes available.
